Today my husband was working overtime again, my daughter was working and my son working out at the gym with his friend. I could have cleaned my house and done laundry, but it was a beautiful day and I just needed to get out. I got in the car not really having a destination in mind and I found myself driving across the bridge and heading for the beach. I headed straight for the boardwalk where they have a little park and figured I’d get me some iced tea from Quizno’s and go sit on the walkway. So I hadn’t been there for very long and this little 3 year old boy comes up to me and says, “Hey, I’m Eric, and my mom has a hurt leg – will you push me on the swings?”. He was a really cute kid and I said Oh okay, let’s go. His mom hobbled over to the picnic table close to the swings and proceeded to thank me for swinging her son and we started talking. Her husband had just been laid off and they had made a commitment to home school their oldest daughter three years ago so she hadn’t worked since then. She said she just needed to get out of the house for a while and get some fresh air and talk to God. Just talking to her was a lot of fun and we found out we had a lot in common. During the conversation, I invited her to church with me as she said she’d been looking for one that had more activities for her young daughter. I also told her about a group we have for men who are unemployed. We exchanged numbers and I guess that’s why God made me lonesome this afternoon and got me out of the house. He always knows just what we need to do and when. I think it’s really cool how he times things – I don’t believe in coincidences. She said she’d pray for my sister who also was laid off recently and I told her I would pray for her and her husband.
